THE power outage experienced since Sunday at Ariamsvlei, Noordoewer, and surrounding areas due to an electrical fault has also disrupted operations at the areas’ three borders.

The affected borders are Ariamsvlei, Noordoewer, and Klein Manasse, where services at the three border posts are currently limited to manual processing only.

The power outage stems from an electrical fault on the second (220/132 kV 40 MVA) Transformer at Harib Substation, which supplies power to the affected areas.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security on Friday, due to the power failure, the Ariamsvlei and Noordoewer border posts, which normally operate 24 hours, will be open between 07:00 and 09:00 until the situation is resolved.

The ministry indicated that the utility panel is working on resolving the matter and that the public will be informed once the problem is resolved.

However, NamPower, in a statement, indicated that while supply was anticipated to be restored by Tuesday, unforeseen circumstances have delayed the transport and commissioning of the replacement transformer.

The replacement transformer has arrived at Harib substation, and work to commission it has commenced. It is anticipated that power supply to the affected areas will be restored by Saturday.

The public is cautioned to treat all power lines and electrical points as “live” during power outages, as no prior notification is given when power supply is restored.
