PowerCom inaugurates tower in Goreangab

PowerCom inaugurated a new tower in Windhoek’s Goreangab residential area.

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, who presided over the tower’s launch, emphasised its alignment with the Harambee Prosperity Plan’s infrastructure development goals.

This tower’s completion underscores the commitment to expanding access to information and communication technology, recognising its vital role in driving economic growth.

Dr. Mushelenga stressed that IT services and facilities are now a necessity, not a luxury, in today’s society.

“Given the increasing role of ICT in the daily lives of people, the regulator is compelled to ensure the provision of affordable communication solutions and protect consumers from excessive costs generally imposed by operators. Thus, the government closely follows the sector, monitoring customer satisfaction with quality, accessible, and affordable services.”

PowerCom’s CEO, Beatus Amadhila, revealed ambitious plans to meet the growing demand by constructing more towers.

Amadhila also announced that the company has applied for additional sites in Goreangab and elsewhere, pending municipal approval.

“The geographic spread of the projects completed in the past financial year and the current projects as well as the projects planned for the upcoming financial year are as follows: the 18 sites completed in the last financial year at an investment of N$21.6 million: 6 in Hardap, 1 in ||Kharas, 6 in Otjozondjupa, 1 in Oshikoto, 1 in Khomas, 2 in Erongo, and 1 in Oshana. Our current projects: N$7.2 million investment in |Khomas, 3 in Erongo, and 1 in Otjozondjupa.”

In Windhoek, PowerCom aims to expand infrastructure to areas like Greenwell, Otjomuise, and Hakahana.

A further N$36 million investment is required to build 30 more sites.
