PRESERVING TRADITION: Otjikandero Himba village, a project which was started by Jaco Burger, located in the Kamanjab area showcases the ways of life of the Himba people. Burger is married to a Himba woman known as the queen of the village. The Himba people in the village are originally from Kaololand but moved to the Himba village to look for better opportunities.
The Himba people showcased their traditional ways of live, including the symbolism of their traditional clothing and beliefs. Their kids go to school but come back over weekends. In addition to this it was explained that when Ovahimba twins of the same gender are born, one of them is raised as the opposite gender, for example if two boys are born one would be raised as a girl.
