SWAPO Party coordinator for Oshikoto, Armas Amukwiyu, said the late President Hage Geingob was not just a leader in office, but a leader who went beyond policies, demonstrating his dedication to the well-being of all Namibians.
Amukwiyu made the remarks on behalf of all 14 regional coordinators during a memorial service held by the Swapo party in Windhoek on Thursday.
According to Amukwiyu, the late President Geingob used to give a portion of his salary to support the needy in Namibia.
“This act of generosity speaks volumes about his character and his genuine concern for those less fortunate,” he said.
He added that in times when leadership is often measured by political decisions and economic policies, President Geingob stood out by embodying a spirit of selflessness.
Amukwiyu indicated that he also understood that leadership is not just about making decisions from a distance; it’s about being connected to the people, feeling their struggles, and actively working towards alleviating their hardships.
Moreover, Amukwiyu said the late President’s leadership qualities served as a guiding light during challenging times.
“President Geingob possessed a rare talent for empathetic listening and understanding the diverse needs of our people,” he added.
Amukwiyu added that his inclusive approach promoted unity, transcending political divides and strengthening the core values so dear to the Swapo party.
With President Geingob, Amukwiyu said Namibia experienced economic growth, social advancement, and a dedication to justice in alignment with the Swapo Party’s principles.
He indicated that the lessons from President Geingob are braided into the fabric of the political identity and he conveyed that leadership is not merely a title but a responsibility to serve with humility.
Amukwiyu stressed that his legacy urges them to champion social justice, uplift the marginalized, and strive for unity amidst diversity.
