PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba has sent a message of congratulations to Mozambique’s president-elect, Daniel Chapo, and the country’s ruling party, FRELIMO.
Chapo and his FRELIMO Party were declared winners of the October 9 general elections, the results of which were challenged in court. However, on Monday, Mozambique’s Constitutional Council officially named Daniel Chapo as the new president of the country.
In his congratulatory message, President Mbumba said:
“I wish to congratulate H.E. Daniel Chapo and FRELIMO for emerging victorious in the recently concluded general elections in Mozambique. As my dear brother, H.E. Daniel Chapo, and FRELIMO undertake this important mandate of service to the Mozambican nation, I am confident that President-elect Chapo will lead the people of Mozambique towards prosperity, unity, and greater heights of development.”
He highlighted the strong historical ties between Namibia and Mozambique, forged during the struggle for liberation and the right to self-determination.
“Our shared history has always provided a solid foundation to strengthen economic cooperation. The Government of Namibia looks forward to working with President-elect Daniel Chapo and the FRELIMO Government for continued fruitful bilateral relations in the interest of our people, peace, and a prosperous SADC region. I extend my best wishes to President-elect Daniel Chapo and the FRELIMO Party in the execution of the important task of leading our sister country, Mozambique,” said President Mbumba.
