President Mbumba urges embrace of Constitution

President Nangolo Mbumba has called on Namibians to draw solace from the fact that the late President Geingob always encouraged citizens from all walks of life to internalise the country’s Constitution as a living document.

President Mbumba, in a statement to mark the 34th anniversary of the Constitution, which was adopted on February 9, 1989, stated that Namibians are reminded of the remarkable and inspiring journey they have walked under the late Dr. Geingob’s able guidance and stewardship as Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly, founding Prime Minister, and third President.

President Mbumba, who succeeds the late president, says indeed, a dark cloud is hanging over the people of Namibia, who have lost a revolutionary and visionary leader who, as the third president, worked diligently to champion the fundamental rights and freedoms that are entrenched in the Constitution.

He further encouraged all Namibians to be proud of the peaceful and stable country, which is the envy of many nations across the globe, and to re-commit to work hard to broaden the scope of inclusive economic development where no one is left out.

President Mbumba says when he took the oath this week, he committed himself to uphold the Constitution and serving each and every Namibian in the advancement of shared prosperity.
