THE Namibian Prime Minister, Saara-Kuugongelwa Amadhila, has denied allegations of having any relations with Petroleum Commissioner Maggy Shino, nor of corruptly appointing her to the position to fill the pockets of an elite few.
The Prime Minister’s response comes in the wake of a letter, ostensibly from Total Energies, accusing the Prime Minister of being involved in favouritism and corrupt practices related to the appointment of the Petroleum Commissioner’s position.
“The appointment of public servants is done in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Public Service Act 13 (Act No. 13 of 1995), and the appointment of the Petroleum Commissioner, Maggy Shino, was done in compliance with the above provisions. Any person aggrieved by the appointment is advised to follow the grievance procedures as prescribed under the Public Service Act 13 of 1995, Public Service Staff Rules, and other relevant laws,” said Rhingo Mutambo, a Public Officer with the Office of the Prime Minister.
The statement further read that the Rt. Prime Minister strongly refutes the allegations of favouritism and corruption levelled against her. She also distanced herself from allegations of any personal relationship between her and Shino. Mutambo concluded that any person with evidence of corrupt practices on this matter is encouraged to submit that to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.
