Prime minister denies mines ministry corruption allegations

Prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has disputed corruption allegations in connection with the appointment of petroleum commissioner Maggy Shino.

In a media statement on Wednesday, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila also distanced herself from allegations of a personal relationship with Shino.

“The appointment of public servants is done in accordance with the provisions as outlined in the Public Service Act and the appointment of Shino was done in compliance with the above provisions,” said Office of the Prime Minister spokesperson Rhingo Mutambo.

Mutambo added that any person aggrieved by the appointment is advised to follow grievance procedures as prescribed.

This comes after a letter, distributed on social media, in which it was alleged that Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and the minister of mines and energy, Tom Alweendo, were involved in corruption.
