THE Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has called on the public to refrain from sharing videos of incidents committed outside Namibia, as this creates confusion, fear, and panic in the community.
The call comes after a video was seen circulating on social media where a minor is being assaulted.
In a statement issued by NamPol on Thursday, NamPol Inspector-General Joseph Shikongo said, “This grave visual on social media has equally drawn public attention and outcry; however, the video clip happened 2 to 3 years ago, and the incident did not occur in Namibia.”
“The Force remains committed to executing its duties effectively and efficiently. Equally, the Namibian Police Gender-Based Violence Division has been established to, among other things, address issues involving minors and their protection,” he said.
He added that the Force is aware of the video circulating on WhatsApp in which a defenceless minor is assaulted, manhandled, and treated inhumanely by an adult female at an unidentified daycare centre.
Furthermore, Shikongo emphasized that public members are encouraged to report any criminal activities committed within their communities to their nearest police station.
