SOUTHERN Namibia experienced a dynamic week of weather, with heavy rainstorms in the //Kharas and Hardap regions earlier this week, and strong hailstorms in some areas later in the week.
The South’s eventful week can be seen in various photos and videos shared on social media. The most recent striking photos show the aftermath of a hailstorm that broke out in the Hardap Region on Thursday, resulting in a frost- and hail-covered road between Mariental and Maltahöhe. This breath-taking moment was captured and shared on social media by Facebook user Björn Basler.
In the days before, it was the //Kharas Region that attracted considerable attention on social media weather groups. Photos and videos shared by Facebook user Theodore Neville Mapanka Katzao showed that the road between Grünau and Karasburg in the //Kharas Region was almost entirely covered by hailstones and frost on Wednesday. This came after the //Kharas Region’s Keetmanshoop was hit by a heavy rainstorm on Tuesday. This, too, can be seen in photos and videos shared on social media.
These events weren’t isolated, as several other southern areas also encountered somewhat similar weather conditions, albeit, for most, not as dramatic.
According to Namibia Meteorological Services, the South can expect more eventful weather for the rest of this week, including strong south-westerly winds on Saturday followed by colder conditions on Sunday and into the following week.
