SEVERAL regions, particularly in the north, are likely to receive moderate rain showers on Thursday, which could intensify on Friday before gradually spreading southwards this coming weekend.
This prediction comes from the Namibia Meteorological Services, which has identified the Ohangwena, Oshana, and Oshikoto regions as some of the northern areas expecting rain on Thursday. The Otjozondjupa Region has also been singled out as another area likely to experience isolated rain showers on Thursday.
Ondangwa has been highlighted as one of the northern towns expecting consistent rainfall, with showers forecasted for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the town. Despite these anticipated showers, Ondangwa is also projected to be one of the hottest areas on Thursday, with maximum temperatures expected to reach around 38°C.
While the Namibia Meteorological Services did not explicitly mention any specific north-eastern regions expecting rain, some areas in the northeast are also expected to have rain over the coming days. Rundu, in the Kavango East Region, was highlighted among the places expecting rain showers on Saturday.
This might not come as a surprise, as several north-eastern places have been consistently receiving light rainfall this week and last week.
For instance, Nkasa Rupara National Park in the Zambezi Region and surrounding areas recorded approximately 26 millimetres (mm) of rain last Friday and Saturday. Katima Mulilo, also in the Zambezi Region, received consistent albeit light rainfall as well, recording 8.1mm of rain on Monday morning, followed by an additional 4.9mm of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
However, it’s not just the northern regions that should prepare for rain showers. Despite the current dry and hot conditions persisting in the central regions, the Namibia Meteorological Services predicted that Windhoek might also experience rain showers on Friday and Saturday.
