MODERATE to heavy rainfall is expected in the southern parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday.

This was predicted by the Namibia Meteorological Services, which highlighted Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas Region as one of the places that can expect thundershowers on Wednesday, Thursday, and even Friday.

A few thundershowers are also expected in a few other interior areas, but this is not expected to be widespread.

The Namibia Meteorological Services identified Windhoek as another interior area that can expect rain between Wednesday and Friday. This won’t be the capital city’s first showers this week, as some parts of Windhoek received between 4.6 millimetres (mm) and 4.9mm of rain from Monday to Tuesday morning.

A few other locations also experienced light rainfall this week, including Omaruru in the Erongo Region, Gobabis in the Omaheke Region, and Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region, recording 15.1mm, 1.8mm, and 1mm of rain respectively from Monday to Tuesday morning.

Looking ahead, however, most interior regions are forecasted to be hot and windy on Wednesday. The highest temperatures are expected in the north, particularly in the Kunene Region’s Sesfontein, where temperatures may reach as high as 39°C on Wednesday.

The coast is also expected to be hot for the remainder of the week. However, on Wednesday, the coast’s maximum temperature will not rival that of the interior, as temperatures in coastal towns such as Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Henties Bay, and Lüderitz are not expected to exceed 33°C.
