THE southern, eastern, and central parts of the country will likely receive scattered to widespread rain this weekend.
This was predicted by Namibia Meteorological Services, which identified Windhoek and Keetmanshoop as some of the places that can expect rain this weekend.
Namibia Meteorological Services forecasted that the southern, eastern, and central parts of the country will experience thundershowers on Saturday, while the Khomas Region, in particular, can expect more rainfall on Sunday. A number of places in the southern, eastern, and central parts of the country have already received rain during the course of this week, albeit not particularly heavy.
In the //Kharas Region, Koës received 9 millimetres (mm) of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning, while Karios, Gellap, and Keetmanshoop received 11.3mm, 1.6mm, and 0.8mm of rain, respectively, between Thursday and Friday morning.
In the East, Omaheke Region’s Sandveld recorded 4.1mm of rain between Wednesday and Friday morning, while in the Centre, Khomas Region’s Claratal recorded 6mm of rain during that same period.
However, the week’s rainfall also reached places beyond the southern, eastern, and central parts of the country. For example, Omaruru in the Erongo Region and Oshakati in the Oshana Region received extremely light rainfall this week, recording 0.4mm and 0.8mm of rain, respectively, between Wednesday and Friday morning.
This weekend’s rainfall is, however, expected to primarily focus again on the southern, central, and eastern parts of the country, while the North is anticipated to be quite hot during this time. The highest temperatures for Saturday are expected in the North-east, where Zambezi Region’s Katima Mulilo, Kavango West’s Nkurenkuru, and Kavango East’s Rundu can expect maximum temperatures of about 38°C.
However, this weather pattern is not expected to persist beyond the weekend for certain northern areas, as rain is anticipated to occur in some northern places after the weekend. In fact, Namibia Meteorological Services has identified Rundu and Ondangwa as places likely to experience rainfall on Monday.
