THE Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Peya Mushelenga, has called upon the public to immediately inform the Namibian Police of anyone who claims to be collecting funds for the funeral of the late President Hage Geingob.

“There are people going around soliciting money, claiming to be doing it for the funeral of the late president. The government would like to make it clear that it has not assigned anyone to solicit money for the mourning or funeral of the president. So, if you see people who approached you, claiming that they are collecting funds for the mourning and for the funeral of the late president, please report them to the Namibian Police,” Mushelenga said.

These remarks were made during the latest briefing on the mourning and funeral preparations for President Geingob. Mushelenga disclosed that the daily memorial service for the late president would continue from 18:00 to 20:00 today but would be paused over the weekend to allow the family time to rest. The venue for next week’s memorial service will be announced later.

Additionally, the minister announced that companies, institutions, and organizations wishing to host small memorial services for their staff in honour of President Geingob are permitted to do so. However, those planning larger gatherings must obtain approval from the National Preparatory Committee, facilitated through the office of the Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

More briefings on mourning and funeral preparations for President Geingob will take place until the date of the president’s funeral. These briefings will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology every day at 16:00.
