The Chief Executive of the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, Mbahupu Tjivikua has urged students to prioritize research and development to drive Namibia’s future.
Speaking at the Namibia University of Science and Technology’s (NUST) 2024 Institutional Research Week, themed “Advancing Human-Centric Research, Innovation, and Sustainability,” Tjivikua emphasized the transformative power of research and development.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry and academia to foster innovation and sustainable growth. By working together, Namibia can tap into regional and international markets to boost its economy.
“There are three outcomes from university, get educated and do not use it, then become nothing of value in society. Secondly, you can join the job market and contribute to society positively, and thirdly become an entrepreneur. Thus, the choice is yours, however, I do not encourage you to take the first option of turning into nothing,” he stated.
He said the university prepares students to serve society through public service.
“Where the formal education ends, the informal life, life after university, take over where you learn things that were not covered by school, which includes decision making and how to transform society,” he concluded.
