THE water levels in the Okavango and Orange Rivers are gradually increasing, while the Zambezi River has shown no change in the past 24 hours. Additionally, there has been a recorded decrease in the flow of the Kunene River at Ruacana, according to the latest update from the Namibia Hydrological Services.
As of Friday, the Zambezi River at Katima Mulilo maintained a stable water level of 1.33 metres, unchanged from Thursday’s recording. Meanwhile, the Okavango River at Rundu has seen a gradual rise, with an increase of 9cm, reaching 5.41 metres on Friday. This marks a notable elevation compared to the same period last year.
The Lower Orange River level at Blouputs is also on the rise, with a recorded water level of 3.08 metres on Friday morning, significantly higher than the level observed during the same period last year.
However, the Kunene River’s flow at Ruacana has experienced a decrease from 319.6m3/s on Thursday to 261.20m3/s on Friday morning. The fluctuating river levels prompt ongoing monitoring and contingency planning in flood-prone regions, with communities urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures.
