THE current water levels in the Zambezi River at Katima Mulilo are notably higher than the corresponding period last year, standing at 1.33 meters, according to the update released by Namibia’s hydrological services on Thursday.
The Okavango River levels continue to rise, increasing by 10 cm since Wednesday to 5.32 meters this morning. The water levels for the river are higher compared to the same period last year.
The Lower Orange River level at Blouputs increased from 2.48 meters on Wednesday to 2.81 meters on Thursday morning. The water level for the river is higher compared to the same period last year.
The Kunene River at Ruacana recorded a flow of 319.60 m3/s this morning, which is double the flow recorded during the same period last year.
Contingency planning for flood risk mitigation and recovery will be activated in flood-prone regions, and communities living in flood-prone areas must remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.
Satellite images over the past 24 hours show scattered light showers over the north-central and central parts, while moderate scattered rains are observed over the northeastern and eastern parts.
