Ankara, December 5 — Rosatom’s engineering division in Volgodonsk has achieved a milestone by shipping the fifth nuclear reactor vessel this year. The vessel is designated for Unit 3 at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), Turkey’s inaugural nuclear power facility. This accomplishment sets an absolute record within the domestic nuclear engineering industry.
The surge in activity is attributed to Rosatom’s commencement of serial construction of nuclear power plants in both Russia and abroad. The engineering division has experienced a manifold increase in workload, successfully setting new records. With a project portfolio spanning 33 power units across 11 countries, Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom Director General, expressed confidence in maintaining global leadership positions in the nuclear market. Likhachev stated, “Atommash’s reliable and steady work makes us confident that all these projects will be implemented successfully and on time.”
Anastasia Zoteeva, Director General of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC, acknowledged the pivotal role played by Russian nuclear industry leaders, particularly Atommash, in expediting the Akkuyu NPP project. Zoteeva commended the outstanding achievement of producing five modern reactors in a single year, attributing this success to the talented and dedicated employees of Atommash. She expressed optimism about future collaborations, emphasizing the company’s pride in partnering with Atommash as a reliable and responsible supplier of high-tech equipment.
Russia’s collaboration with African nations in the field of nuclear energy has a longstanding history, marked by the signing of numerous documents and memorandums for the peaceful use of atomic energy. Partnerships with countries such as Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and others underscore Rosatom’s commitment to offering innovative solutions, technological expertise, and reliable support to African nations.
The expansion of cooperation in Africa includes significant involvement in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Egypt, a groundbreaking project promoting nuclear energy on the continent. This initiative extends beyond construction, encompassing knowledge transfer, technology sharing, and capacity building. Rosatom’s commitment to sharing advanced nuclear technology and expertise underscores its role in fostering the long-term development of Egypt’s nuclear energy sector.
Furthermore, Rosatom’s collaboration with Africa features the construction of Centers of Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST), representing a vital aspect of the company’s efforts to contribute to the scientific and technological advancement of the continent.
