THE Vice President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, has encouraged Namibian delegates attending the second Russia-Africa summit to participate fully and meaningfully at the summit, especially in terms of strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties.
The summit, attended by close to 20 African heads of State, kick-started today and is also attended by a wide number of high-level delegates from Namibia, such as the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and Deputy Prime Minister, Netumbo Nande-Ndaitwah, the Minister of Labour, Uutoni Nujoma, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, amongst others.
According to Ambassador Jerobeam Shaanika, the Deputy ED of International Relations, there will be an agreement on trade that will be signed with Russia.
Touching on the Geo-Politics and the Ukraine-Russia conflict, which has led the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue warrants of arrest for Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, Shaanika said that the world is imperfect due to the forces inherent to human nature, and to improve the world is to work with these forces and not against them. “Africa has partnerships with Europe, the US, India, Turkey, China, and many others. We want to have partnerships to improve the world,” the Ambassador said.
The summit, held in St. Petersburg, Russia, focuses on a wide range of areas such as Nuclear Technologies for the Development of the African region. In partnership with the State Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia, Rosatom, the conference aims to discuss the prospects for “atoms for peace and development” in Africa and possible ways of fruitful cooperation in this area. In addition to this, other topics will include Food Insecurity in Africa, establishing New Russian-African Logistics routes, as well as cooperation in Science and Technology, amongst many other subjects.
