In line with the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021), which states that SADC shall observe all General Elections in its member states, Namibia has invited the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to observe the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly Elections scheduled for 27 November.

According to SADC, the Secretariat Support Team will be deployed in Windhoek on 11 November to set up the SEOM Headquarters and prepare logistics for the deployment of observers.

In addition, the Secretariat is expected to coordinate technical, logistical, and administrative arrangements for deploying the SEOM to Namibia, facilitate the observers’ pre-deployment refresher training, and manage the overall SEOM activities.

SADC noted that the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, H.E Excellency Dr Samia Hassan, President of Tanzania, will deploy the SEOM and appoint a Head of Mission and will also mandate the SADC Secretariat led by SADC Executive Secretary H.E Elias Magosi, to coordinate the SEOM, including facilitation of in-country deployment of election observers.
