Namibia Asset Protection is set to refund one of its employees, Shapumba Tutangeni, a total amount of N$920 after deducting the amount from his salary for allegedly sleeping on duty last year.
Tutangeni is employed as a security guard and the repayment of a part of his salary comes in the wake of a successful intervention by social activist Michael Amushelelo in the matter.
The deduction from the guard’s salary took place in December last year, and Amushelelo was alerted to the issue.
According to Amushelelo, Tutangeni is paid an average of N$8.33 per hour.
A payslip seen by the Windhoek Observer shows that in December, Tutangeni received a starting salary of N$2,500 plus N$500.
The company deducted N$22.50 for social security (0.9 percent), N$625 for a loan, and N$920 for sleeping on duty.
This resulted in a total deduction of N$1,567.50 from his salary.
More information will be available in tomorrow’s paper.
