A SECURITY guard was arrested by the Namibian police after he allegedly shot and killed a suspected burglar at Onanke village in the Oshikoto Region on Monday.
It is alleged that the deceased, who has not yet been identified, attempted to break into the sleeping room of a 27-year-old female employee of a local mini-market. The woman woke up and sent a text message to her colleagues who were sleeping in nearby rooms, informing them of the presence of an intruder.
According to the police, other mini-market employees rushed to the scene, and the suspect fled. The security guard, armed with a shotgun, fired a warning shot to stop the fleeing suspect, but to no avail. He fired again, this time in the direction of the fleeing suspect, hitting him in the upper part of the chest and killing him instantly.
“The deceased person is unknown at this stage, and his lifeless body was taken to the Omuthiya mortuary for a postmortem examination to be conducted,” said the police.
The 25-year-old security guard, originally from Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region but employed by the Ondangwa-based Shakela Security company, was promptly arrested and is detained at the Omuthiya police station. The murder weapon was recovered.
