A SECURITY guard has been admitted to the Gobabis State Hospital after sustaining injuries from being struck with a hammer on the head, face, and neck, as well as being stabbed in both knees when attempting to escape a robbery at the Witvlei Village Council.
According to the weekend crime bulletin, the incident involving housebreaking with intent to rob, robbery, attempted murder, and assault occurred on 17 February 2024 at approximately 01:00 at the Witvlei Village Council office.
It is alleged that four unknown male suspects, armed with a pistol, hammer, knife, and screwdriver, broke into the village council’s office and encountered a 32-year-old Namibian male, a security guard from the Windhoek Security Company, who was deployed at the office within the building premises.
Further allegations suggest that the suspects pushed the guard into the cashier’s office, tied him up with electrical cables on his legs and arms, and then proceeded to the garage to collect additional housebreaking equipment.
Reportedly, the guard managed to free himself and attempted to escape the building premises, but the suspects caught up with him, assaulting him with a hammer on his head, face, and both arms. They then dragged him into the office where the safe was located and began demanding the safe key. Subsequently, they tied him up with ropes on his legs and arms, threatened to kill him, and when he fought back, they stabbed him in both knees with a knife, resulting in serious injuries.
Despite their efforts, the suspects failed to gain access to the safe and only managed to flee with a few items from the office, including a laptop, a smartphone, two 20kg bags of maize meal, and two packs of canned fish. The victim was promptly taken to the local clinic and later transferred to Gobabis State Hospital, where he remains admitted, with his condition reported as stable.
No arrests have been made yet, and police investigations are ongoing.
