South Africa sends special envoy to Mozambique to address political and security unrest

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has dispatched his special envoy, Sydney Mufamadi, to neighbouring Mozambique.

Mufamadi met with the president of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, as part of an effort to resolve the political and security crisis.

The southern African country was plunged into chaos after a contested election a few months back.

Since then, the country has not seen peace with constant protest from opposition loyalists demanding a rerun of the alleged tainted election.

Ramaphosa has been trying to get the parties to sit and find a lasting solution to the political impasse.

The disputed elections were won by ruling Frelimo leader Daniel Chapo while the opposition is steered by disgruntled Venancio Mondlane who refuses to endorse the results and has kept his charges in protest till a favourable outcome is declared.
