The South African Navy has initiated an internal board of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths of three mariners during a vertical transfer exercise off the Kommetjie coast. While conducting the operation with an SA Air Force Maritime Lynx helicopter, high waves swept seven crew members into the sea, resulting in the loss of three lives. The navy has requested media sensitivity and assured the public that a thorough inquiry will commence on October 11, with results expected by November 10.
