A 20-year-old female student at the University of Namibia, Oshakati campus was allegedly assaulted, robbed and kidnapped by three unknown men on Monday at 18h27 at Omahenene location, Oshakati West in Oshana region.
According to Oshana police liaison officer, Frieda Shikole, it is alleged that the victim took a taxi from Oshakati to Ongwediva engineering campus to go and study at the library for her exams. She was, however, kidnapped by the taxi driver and two other male suspects, who started demanding money from the victim’s parents, relatives and friends, while threatening to rape her and sell her off to Angolans who buy young girls, should they fail to send money.
Out of fear, the parents immediately sent an amount of N$3 900 to the suspects.
The suspects also withdrew an amount of N$780 from the victim’s bank account, for a total of N$4 680.
The victim was also robbed of a cell phone, valued at N$2 500, at knife-point and assaulted, to bring the total value of her losses to N$7 180.
Investigations into the matter continue.
