A 37-YEAR-OLD woman from Swakopmund, Mondesa, was discovered dead by her boyfriend with eleven stab wounds.

A 23-year-old Namibian male suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder.

The murder allegedly occurred on Saturday, 28 December 2024, between 10:00 and 11:00 at Kovambo Nuyoma Street, Single Quarters.

According to Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba of the Erongo Police, it is alleged that the body of Jogobeth Gawanas was discovered by her boyfriend, lying motionless in a pool of blood with eleven stab wounds.

He added that a kitchen knife soaked in blood, suspected to be the murder weapon, was also found at the scene.

“It was further alleged that the boyfriend left home at 06:30 to visit the scrapyard, leaving her in the bedroom and his nephew sleeping in another room. His nephew allegedly arrived at the scrapyard later, prompting the boyfriend to return home. Upon arrival, he found the house door open and began searching for his girlfriend. He eventually followed a trail of blood, which led him to discover her lifeless body,” Shapumba said.

He added that although it was initially suspected that the victim had committed suicide, a preliminary police investigation suggested that the victim was stabbed with a knife, causing her death.

Nurses from Swakopmund State Hospital arrived at the scene and declared the victim dead.

Investigations are ongoing.
