Swakopmund is gearing up for a festive season filled with joy, safety and security.

A special detachment of the Namibian Police’s Special Reserve Force arrived in the holiday town on Sunday and their mission is to enforce law and order throughout the bustling festive period, ensuring a safe and tranquil environment for both residents and visitors.

Linda Mupupa, the spokesperson of the municipality, reiterated the council’s support for the endeavour.

“As part of its commitment to a safe and secure environment, the town council sponsored N$147 027 to accommodate and provide meals for the Special Reserve Force members,” she said.

She added that the initiative was made possible through a partnership between the Namibian Police and the Swakopmund Municipality, which is a demonstration of the town’s commitment to creating a peaceful holiday atmosphere.

According to Mupupa, the collaboration stresses the town’s dedication to creating a festive atmosphere that is both enjoyable and secure.

“Let us all work together to make this festive season memorable and incident-free,” Mupupa added while also urging people to play their part in maintaining safety and harmony.

Swakopmund’s mayor, Blasius Goraseb, in his special festive season message also called for peace and harmony during the festive season.

He encouraged residents and holidaymakers to embrace the spirit of the season with generosity and gratitude while staying mindful of their safety.

“During this festive season, I call upon all of us to come together as a community to celebrate the bonds that unite us, the moments that make us smile, and the spirit of generosity that defines us,” he said.

Goraseb also reassured visitors that numerous measures have been put in place to prioritize safety during this busy period.

He, however, called for vigilance, particularly in crowded areas or during late-night outings. “

Report any suspicious activity to the Namibian Police immediately. Remember, if consuming alcohol, do so responsibly and never drink and drive,” Goraseb advised.

He also reminded the community of the importance of respecting public tranquillity and ensuring businesses prioritize customer safety.

He expressed his wish for a season filled with joy, love, and peace while urging all to celebrate responsibly.

“Let’s celebrate responsibly and ensure that the spirit of the holidays shines brightly throughout our community,” he said.

According to Goraseb, the diverse range of activities provided by Swakopmund promises a first-rate experience for all who visit this festive season.

“With the collaboration of the Namibian Police and local authorities, the town is well-prepared to ensure that celebrations and other holiday activities will be safe and enjoyable for everyone,” he said.
