The mayors of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay say the year 2024 has been a challenging one.

Throughout the year, the neighbours supported each other and found innovative ways to assist local businesses and customers.

Trevino Forbes, the mayor of Walvis Bay, expressed his gratitude to the residents, stating that 2025 may be their final year in council, marking a challenging four-year term filled with obstacles and growth opportunities in the city.

He highlighted Walvis Bay’s role as a leader in economic development in Namibia, noting the emergence of promising projects alongside some setbacks.

Forbes encouraged the community to unite and remain dedicated, adding, “Let’s stand together. Let’s stay committed. Let’s push for 2025 to be a brilliant year with your commitment and your support. The council will deliver so all the best for 2025 and have a prosperous new year.”

Similarly, Blasius Goraseb, the mayor of Swakopmund, echoed these thoughts. He acknowledged that while this year has been remarkable, families’ experiences varied; for some, it was a year of breakthroughs, while others faced significant losses.

“We must not forget that Christmas is not a drinking party. Christmas is not there for ourselves just to relax and enjoy, but we must not forget the real reason why we celebrate Christmas. We are celebrating God’s gift to mankind, Jesus, who came and died for our sins.”
