THE 22-year-old rape victim of former parliamentarian testified in court about what she termed a ‘nightmare’, the night she was raped by her own father.
The victim, who was 20 years old at the time of the incident, shared that on January 16, 2021, she stayed overnight at her father’s house due to fearing a certain uncle who had threatened her at the place where she was staying. On that particular night, there was allegedly another young woman present at her father’s house, who was introduced to her as ‘Destiny,’ and reportedly a daughter of her father’s best friend.
She recounted that her father had driven out shortly after her arrival, and later returned with a bottle of vodka and some beers. Allegedly, the former parliamentarian offered the young woman alcohol; however, she was reluctant to drink with her father. Her father reportedly made the following remarks: “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”
She remembered that her father had jokingly dubbed himself as the “shot master.” He then playfully instructed her to get shot glasses from the cupboard, after which he poured shots of vodka for both of them. During her testimony, she mentioned that she lost track of the number of shots and beers she had consumed. She became intoxicated to the extent that she was unable to walk.
The young woman added that at that time, both of them were drunk, and Destiny went to sleep. Allegedly, the former parliamentarian told her that they should go and get more beers, to which she refused. Her father allegedly said to her, “Don’t be a party pooper,” and then lifted her into the car, as she was too drunk and unable to walk. Shortly afterward, he drove off.
The rape victim went on to recount that they had driven to pick up a specific man identified as Sedrick, who was a bar owner they later went to. She described an incident at the bar where she slipped on the floor, twisting her ankle. Sedrick kindly offered to help, lifting her and carrying her to the car. While they were in the car, she mentioned that Sedrick began kissing her and touching her, shortly before the accused arrived.
They allegedly drove and dropped Sedrick back at his place, and later proceeded to her father’ house. Upon arrival at his house, they purportedly sat on the couch while listening to music. Her father put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her to him. She assumed her father just wanted a hug, so she hugged him and said, ‘I love you, daddy.’ He allegedly responded, ‘I love you too.’ The former parliamentarian further stood up and went to his bedroom, where he later called her to follow him.
She recounted that her father began applying ointment on her ankle and that the next thing she knew, he was on top of her kissing and stroking her all over, adding that she had no memories of when he removed her trousers but simply felt him in her. The rape victim testified in tears that she couldn’t believe what was happening and that she just looked up at the ceiling and focused on the patterns of the ceiling while her father continued to rape her and spank her thighs, asking her if she liked it and if she wanted it rough.
She begged him if she could go back to the sitting room after he finished raping her, but he refused and demanded that she sleep next to him, but she couldn’t sleep. The proceedings were then abruptly halted when the victim broke down in tears and was unable to continue, causing the court to postpone the proceedings.
The rape accused currently imprisoned at the Seeis Police Station on four charges, two of which are for rape and incest.
