A CASE of culpable homicide is being investigated by police in the Otjozondjupa region after two vehicles crashed approximately 6 km towards Otavi from the Otjiwarongo direction on the B1 road, killing one passenger and injuring five.
The deceased was identified as Isack Ndjamba, 14; the remains are currently at Otavi clinic and will be transported to Otjiwarongo police mortuary.
Otjozondjupa Community Affairs Officer Inspector Maureen Mbeha said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday.
“Mbeha said that an Orange Iveco Truck with Oshakati registration was travelling from the northern direction with two occupants, including the driver, while a White Ford Ranger with the registration of Walvis Bay was travelling from the South with five occupants, including the driver at the time of the incident when the two collided sideswipe.
“It is alleged that the driver of the Ford Ranger lost control of the vehicle, left the road, and overturned. One passenger from the vehicle succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” she said.
She added the driver of the Iveco Truck, aged 39, and his 21 passengers both sustained slight injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Ranger, a 45-year-old man, sustained slight injuries, while his passengers, a 23-year-old man, sustained slight injuries, the 43-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl both sustained serious injuries.
Mbeha indicated that all injured victims were taken to Otjiwarongo State Hospital for treatment.
