Ten Christmas babies born at Katima Mulilo

Ten ‘Christmas babies’ were born at the Katima Mulilo State Hospital on Wednesday, on Christmas.

Sister Sepiso Lichaba told Nampa the first ‘Christmas baby’ was delivered at 02h37 weighing 3.09kg, followed by a baby weighing 3.5kg delivered via C-section.

Out of the 10 babies, three were premature and weighed less than 2kg.

Sister Lichaba says the last baby was delivered at 21h09.

“The mothers and babies are okay. They are in good hands, and we will do everything possible to ensure that their health comes first. Patients are our number one priority,” says Lichaba.

Beauty Kakambi, one of the women who delivered her baby at the Katima Mulilo State Hospital, says she was happy to have given birth to a healthy child.

“I thank God I gave birth on Christmas Day and the baby is healthy. There were no complications. The one who came before this was born on New Year’s Day, and for me it’s a blessing,” the 38-year-old says.

Kakambi’s baby has been named Xoana Kabuku Kakambi.
