We all have that one person in every group who is just plain annoying. They’re the one who always says the wrong thing, always trying to be the centre of attention and the one who just never seems to get it.
At first, everyone tries to be patient and understanding, but after a while it just gets too much and they start to avoid the annoying person. Mostly they just tune them out.
What happens then when the obnoxious individual finally understands that no one is looking at them any longer? They could at first be angry or frustrated. Yet, they gradually accept it. They understand that they cannot compel others to like them or pay attention to them. So, they simply give up.
Yet the uncommon unpleasant person only thinks up new things to irritate
everyone with.
Here is an example: You and a few friends visit your best friend and as you enter the house, your friend pulls you closer to warn you “whatever he says, don’t pay attention, he is always like that, we are used to it”.
Here is another: This one is always Tate Theodor to speak up in meetings, even if they don’t have anything valuable to contribute. They love the sound of their own voice, and they’re always trying to prove that they’re the smartest person in the room. They don’t do as much as they get paid but they believe speaking is their primary responsibility in the office.
This reminds me of politicians. In Namibia, they think their job is to speak and to appear in newspapers as having said this or that. It is partly the media’s fault for not covering news as they all just copy and paste speeches after press conferences. All the headlines are about what was said by this or that one. This is embarrassing.
I am talking about that one auntie at your church that keeps preaching into everybody’s business even when they are clearly hurting others emotionally. They would dish out advice and tips on how to keep a man or woman while you know that they have not had a nice warm squeeze for two decades themselves! Yes, that auntie that you all know will go to hell for sure.
Annoying people do not know they are annoying. You can’t punish them because they don’t know why they are being administered pain.
It’s like beating a goat with a stick on the head repeatedly because it won’t let the newborn lambs suckle. The goat will feel pain but it will not link the pain to the need to stop and let the lambs feed. It is cruel and inhumane to continue punishing a dumb goat when it won’t know what is going on.
I am talking about your drunkard mother who gets vulgar and curses at everyone in the house to a point where you have now learned to shut the noise out, lock your doors and sleep. You have learned to carry your rubbish yourself but you are unable to take it out on Refuse Removal Mondays because the refuse truck guys won’t take it either.
That one person you tell everybody “Ae, los net. Daai ene is net so”.
I recently heard one say something like “the apartheid era was worse than the genocide”.
