NO CUSTOMER funds have been affected in any way by the incident of theft involving one of Bank Windhoek’s employees at the Opuwo branch, and the potential loss was less than N$2 million thanks to vigilant staff and robust systems and controls within the bank.
This was said by Baronice Hans, Bank Windhoek’s Managing Director, in a statement released by the bank’s marketing and corporate services.
It is alleged that Bank Windhoek employee Nico Hijendepi Rebebe secretly transferred N$200 million to two separate accounts and then disappeared around 11:00 on Saturday. He is still in hiding.
In a statement released afterward, the bank said that the incident was swiftly reported to the Police, and the Bank is actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The statement added that, while the investigation is in progress, the bank will not provide further comments.
