Third leg of circuit racing this weekend

This weekend will see yet more action-packed circuit racing at the Tony Rust Raceway west of Windhoek, when big names like Basil van Rhyn, Michel Rust, Jan Everson, and the Bisschoff brothers Hein and Ewald are taking each other on in their respective classes for that chequered flag.

Speaking to Top Revs, Windhoek Motor Club chairperson Richard Slamet said supporters can expect high adrenaline and top-notch action, with a few newcomers indicating their presence on the tracks.

The likes of Chris Liebenberg, entering with a E30 BMW with a Nissan Skyline 2.5L 6-cylinder engine fitted, will be one of the newbies not to be underestimated.

Slamet, well-known in the motorsport fraternity, will also be in action, although initially indicating his unavailability to race due to family commitments, he eventually heeded the call of the tracks and entered as well.

Renowned rally driver Pieter Greef from Greef Racing will once again make his appearance, having told Top Revs on previous occasions that he plans to keep returning to circuit racing to improve his racing skills after concluding various rallies with a podium finish.

Another well-known member of the motoring industry, Geh Visagie, also indicated his interest in taking part and will most likely compete in a space frame car as he is still preparing the vehicle for this event.

Slamet said spectators can be assured of a day filled with good competitive racing in the various classes, specifically in the VW Golf class, like Marius van Zyl who bought Rian Kritzinger’s Golf and is a force to be reckoned with.

Gates open at 09h00, with the first cars expected to be on track as from 12h00.

The event will be followed with drag racing, drifting and spinning to keep the crowds entertained till late.
