Tragic accident claims life in Onambunga Village, Angola

IN a harrowing incident that unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, a woman lost her life when the vehicle she was travelling in overturned in Onambunga village, Angola. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about road safety on the routes connecting Angola and Namibia.

According to the official statement provided by Omusati Region police spokesperson, Commissioner Moses Simaho, the unfortunate incident involved a silver Toyota bakkie, which was transporting 19 plastic containers filled with petrol. The vehicle was en route from Angola to Namibia when the tragedy occurred.


It is alleged that the incident happened when the driver of the ill-fated bakkie encountered Angolan police officers on a routine patrol at Onambunga village. In an apparent attempt to avoid apprehension, the driver made the decision to turn back towards Angola. However, this manoeuvre ended in tragedy as he lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it overturning. Sadly, during the course of this accident, the passenger, identified as 44-year-old Hilma Tashiya Amadhila, was thrown from the vehicle and sustained grievous injuries.

Amadhila, a resident of Oshiteyatemo village, was immediately rushed to the Onandjaba Health Centre for emergency medical attention. However, despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Commissioner Moses Simaho conveyed further details, revealing that the driver fled from the accident scene on foot. He subsequently sought medical treatment at the Onandjaba Health Centre and is presently receiving care at the Oshikuku Catholic Hospital, where his condition is described as stable.
