Team Namibia and other stakeholders have joined hands to promote the local tourism industry within the country for the festive season through the Travel Local campaign, which is coming to an end.

The public relations and cooperation officer for Team Namibia, Mally Hamundjebo, highlighted that they have received over 4000 engagements from locals partaking in the competition within a few days of the launch.

Penduka Village, Fly Namibia, Energy 100, Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), and other stakeholders have come on board to promote the tourism sector this festive season. Hamundjebo added that the campaign is doing very well.

They have thus far had over 4000 engagements from locals travelling locally and over 400 engagements through the SMS lines.

“We have had about 400 SMS so far. I think that this is the most active engagement that we’ve gotten. So with one of the videos, we have not gotten what we wanted yet. I think most people are still scared, and they’re still skeptical, so we can change our strategy around it.”

Team Namibia Board member Gitta Paetzold has emphasised why Namibians should travel in their own country. She says it is not only to create beautiful memories but also to boost the Namibian economy, thus urging Namibians to explore all corners of the 14 regions.

“I always dare the Namibians to call our places and say, Listen, I am a Namibian and I would like to travel next weekend. I am sure that most people will say, Look at their reservations and see if there are opportunities to negotiate the prices. So Namibians should be daring enough to explore their own country, and this initiative is beautiful. As it brings people together who have not sat around the table for a while.”
