THE annual Wanderers Business League squash tournament pitted some of the best players in the country against each other. Trustco and Merchant West have been crowned the champions of league A and B divisions respectively and three-years-in-a-row victor BDO Namibia have now been dethroned by the Trustco champs.
The tournament stretches over seven weeks with 5-player teams competing every Tuesday evening at Wanderers Squash courts in Windhoek.
Le-Hugo van Rooyen, captain of the Trustco team, congratulated his teammates Steven and Nicholas Berry, Abdul Gester and Wicus van Zyl for winning each of their fixtures and standing proud as the new reigning champs. “This is the first time in eight years Trustco has entered a team, so I am very proud of our achievement.”
“Squash is on the rise again in Namibia. Prominent young players are coming to the fore, moving up the ranks and there is always inspiration to be found in our brilliant Namibian sportsmen and women,” Van Rooyen said.
The tournament format is an opportunity for companies to sponsor teams and prizes and assist in the ultimate development of the sport.
