THE Tsandi Village Council continues to address the issue of housing, which has been a pressing concern across the country. Thus far, the Council has had four extensions approved by the township board, according to Leevi Katoma, Tsandi Trade Fair and Expo Patron and Member of Parliament.
Katoma indicated that, to date, “extension 6,” which is one of the four extensions, has a total of 89 residential plots and has delivered 46 houses, of which 35 were built by NHE and have already been handed over to the beneficiaries. Meanwhile, he indicated that the remaining houses were built individually.
“The remaining plots, in terms of construction, are progressing well, despite the challenges experienced during the coronavirus,” he said.
Furthermore, Katoma said “extension 7,” consisting of a total of 312 residential erven, has been allocated to the program of shack dwellers federation, and construction of houses has started, with 10 houses already completed despite challenges related to services such as sewer, water, and electrical reticulation.
He noted that he is confident that the acute demand for housing erven and commercial space will be alleviated.
Moreover, Katoma indicated that the Village Council is currently working on servicing infrastructure for the additional newly approved “extension 10” and “extension 11,” which are mainly planned for business and residential erven. Although the two extensions have a combination of 268 residential erven, the total number of prospective purchasers has doubled to a total of 580.
“This is an indication that the demand for houses in Tsandi is extremely high,” he added. Furthermore, there are plans to establish a recreational park in Tsandi with modern facilities.
