THE Tsumeb Municipality has prepared a provisional budget of N$171.5 million, subject to approval by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development.
Town Mayor Mathews Hangula tabled the budget on Wednesday for the financial year 2023/24, aiming to achieve their developmental goals to become an industrialized hub.
Hangula stated that the budget’s vision is to develop Tsumeb into a well-managed modern city and industrial hub in the Oshikoto Region.
During the financial year 2023/23, Hangula indicated that they will focus on delivering land and improving service delivery for its residents.
“A capital expenditure budget of N$78 million represents an increase of 44% from the previous financial year,” he said.
He added that the Council will also spend N$60 million on infrastructure projects, such as servicing Extension 9 in Nombtsoub with water and sanitation, upgrading the water Tupperware dam, constructing the water filtration plant, and upgrading the road infrastructure.
Hangula also mentioned that the Council is in the process of finalizing the completion of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) fruits and vegetable hub.
The facility is expected to accommodate 105 vendors, including 84 stalls for fruits and vegetables, 10 kapana, seven SE units, and four bulk stalls.
Hangula emphasized that the successful implementation of the Capital budget is largely dependent on the extent to which the Tsumeb community settles its debts for services rendered by the municipality and subsidies from the central government.
