Two arrested in Khomasdal housebreaking

Two suspects were arrested in connection with a housebreaking incident at Windhoek’s Khomasdal residential area on Saturday morning.

The arrests occurred during a crime prevention operation led by the Namibian Police Force.

Police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says officers on surveillance intercepted two men near Katutura carrying bags containing items they suspect to be stolen.

Some of the items included shoes, computers and watches.

Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed and directed the officers to a house on Anemone Street, Khomasdal, where the crime had allegedly taken place.

“The suspects gained entry by breaking the burglar bars at the back of the house. Fortunately, all stolen items were recovered, and the suspects were taken into custody,” Shikwambi says.

She adds that the homeowners were away at the time of the housebreaking incident.

Shikwambi urges the public to remain vigilant, emphasising that criminals often monitor residents’ movements before striking.

The operation, which began at 19h00 and concluded at 04h00 on Saturday, also addressed other criminal activities, including drunk driving and the misuse of fireworks. Another housebreaking incident was reported at Pioneerspark in the capital, but the suspects fled the scene.

Shikwambi lauds the efforts of the police officers who ensured the recovery of stolen items.
