TWO teenage boys lost their lives, and six others were injured after being struck by lightning in the Kavango East region.
According to Inspector Raimbert Muronga, the media liaison officer within the Namibian police, the deceased were identified as Thikuko Muharakwe John, 19 years old, and Muthitu Dennis Thindhimba, aged 17. The tragic incident occurred while they were playing soccer at the Young Elephant Sports Field in Kamutjonga village on November 29, 2023, at 16:00.
Inspector Muronga reported that six more teenagers, identified as Dinyando Andreas, 17, Makoya Patrick Makoya, 23 years old, Muhero Gotfried, 17 years old, Muyambo Christoph, 17 years old, Mayira Reino, 17 years old, and Mbangu Jonas, 17 years old, were also struck by lightning during the soccer match that resulted in the deaths of the two boys. All six were rushed to Andara Hospital and are currently in stable condition.
