TWO women, both aged 39, identified as Ndatoolewe Mwahafa (Cashier) and Anna-Mary Mutilifa (Accountant), were arrested for allegedly defrauding the Karibib town council of over N$300 000.00.
According to the Erongo police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Illeni Shapumba, it is alleged that the suspects unlawfully and intentionally defrauded the Karibib town council between September 2022 and September 2023 by fraudulently making cancellations on the system for payments made by numerous community members for services ranging from sales of sands, fitness certificates, prepaid water, building plans, and also removing money from the teller machine which was paid in cash for their own benefits. The amount of money stolen amounts to N$315 640.07.
A total of N$2 040.00 has been recovered to date.
Both suspects have been arrested and appeared in the Karibib magistrate court today, 22 February 2023. They were granted bail of N$20 000.00 each, and the case was postponed to 29 April 2024 for further investigation.
