Oshakati, 26 July. The Hifikepunye Campus in Ongwediva came alive as the University of Namibia (UNAM) commenced its highly anticipated yearly career and employment expo on Tuesday. The three-day event, which will run until Thursday, aims to guide participating learners in making well-informed decisions about their future careers.
The expo has drawn the attention of various exhibitors, all eager to contribute to the career development of the youth in attendance.
During the official opening of the expo, Oshana Governor Elia Irimari highlighted the importance of such platforms in empowering learners to make the right career choices. He emphasized that an educated nation holds the key to societal progress and positive change.
“UNAM’s career fair will provide learners with a valuable opportunity to discover their true calling,” he stated.
Governor Irimari stressed the significance of this platform for job seekers and learners alike, as it allows them to connect and explore potential career paths that align with the economic development of the region. He encouraged the youth not to limit themselves to seeking jobs but to aspire to become job creators.
Dr. Jacob Sheehama, the Campus Director, acknowledged the challenges of choosing a career and underscored the importance of seeking guidance during such a critical decision-making process.
“Choosing a career is not an easy task, and overcoming obstacles can be daunting. This is precisely why UNAM has organized this event,” he explained.
Dr. Sheehama expressed his confidence that the UNAM career fair and employment expo would significantly contribute to enlightening the minds of learners and students, enabling them to make well-thought-out decisions that will shape a brighter and more secure future.
Courage Changunda, the SRC Vice President for Congress, motivated the attendees, urging them to stay focused on their goals and persevere in their educational pursuits. He emphasized that education is the key to unlocking future success, and it requires a collaborative effort from both learners and teachers.
Changunda also encouraged the youth to seek guidance from a higher power and stay steadfast on the right path at all times.
As the expo continues, UNAM remains committed to empowering Namibia’s youth, helping them navigate the vast sea of career possibilities and shaping a skilled workforce that will lead the nation towards prosperity and progress.- Namibia Daily News
