THE University of Namibia Hifikunpunye Pohamaba (HP) officially kicks off its annual career fair and employment expo at Ongwediva.
The expo, which starts on Tuesday, will conclude on Thursday.
The event is held annually with the aim of exposing school learners within the northern part of the country to the right career choices and guidance for a better future.
Speaking during the official opening of the expo, Oshana governor Elia Irimari said that the platform gives learners a chance to choose the right career.
He emphasized that an educated nation is a progressive one that will be able to impact change in society.
“UNAM career fair will give the learners a chance to identify their right career,” he said.
He added that the platform is key for job seekers and learners to meet and engage in possible career development.
With the right guidance, Irimari said people are able to select a career that suits the economic development of the region.
He urged the learners not to be job seekers but rather be job creators.
Campus director Doctor Jacob Sheehama said that choosing a career is not easy, hence it’s always important to get guidance.
“Choosing a career is not easy. Resisting hindrances is difficult to do, hence the idea of hosting the event by UNAM HP,” he said.
He added that UNAM career fair and employment expo will really help enlighten the minds of the learners and students in making concrete decisions that would build and shield a better future for them.
SRC Vice President for Congress, Courage Changunda, motivated the learners to keep going and be focused on their goals.
Changunda reminded those in attendance that education is key, and their journey to educational success is a collective effort from both the learners and their teachers.
He urged the learners to pray for guidance from God and always follow the right path at all times.
