President Hage Geingob has urged Namibians to uphold the country’s rights and freedoms regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, religion or background.
Geingob on Sunday issued a press statement in commemoration of International Human Rights Day and Namibian Women’s Day on Monday.
“This commitment necessitates us to hold hands in creating an inclusive and equitable society where everyone, regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, religion or background can enjoy basic rights and freedoms as enshrined in the Constitution,” he said.
Geingob said progress has been made in gender equality in terms of female representation in parliament and leadership positions.
“However, more should be done to eliminate the challenges that women continue to face in various aspects of life, including gender-based violence, unequal access to opportunities and societal biases,” he said.
