The United People’s Party (UPM) has replaced Celeste Becker with Frans Bertolini, effectively revoking Becker’s seat in Parliament. Becker’s suspension from the UPM party and her subsequent replacement in Parliament comes after the UPM accused her of unauthorized spending of party funds, with an amount of N$ 293,000.00 spent on a previous election instead of the approved N$ 150,000. In turn, Becker has taken UPM President Jan van Wyk to court, accusing him of defamation of character as well as of following unconstitutional processes to suspend and dismiss her.
