The Vice President of Namibia has urged the business community to seize economic opportunities to be availed by the government, to enhance the growth of the national economy.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the efforts of the business community in keeping afloat and supplying the public with essentials even during the festive period.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah delivered this in the Presidency’s annual Christmas Message.

“Our business community continues to ensure that even during the Festive Season, our country does not lack necessities. Our national economy is poised for positive growth and trajectory. The SWAPO Party Election Manifesto that is endorsed by the majority pledged to create economic opportunities to combat unemployment and economic stagnation by investing N$85.7 billion in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure development, manufacturing, sports, and creative industries in order to provide job opportunities to thousands of Namibian youth.”

The Vice President further reiterated the clarion call for the safety of travellers on the roads, owing to the heavy traffic on the national roads.

In her capacity as the patron of Road Safety in Namibia, Nandi-Ndaitwah called on the road users to cooperate with the law enforcement officers, while applauding healthcare professionals.

“I pay tribute to our fellow Namibian health workers and professionals who are on duty 24/7 during this Christmas because they are fulfilling national duties and providing essential services. Let me therefore commend our medical doctors, nurses, and emergency service providers who are working around the clock to ensure that services are not disrupted during Christmas and the entire Festive Season.”

Reflecting on the essence of the day, the Nandi-Ndaitwah urged Namibians to find quiet time for reflection.

She says it should further be seen as an opportune time to join families and friends to enjoy, build and renew bonds of love and solidarity.

“Our Constitution recognizes a family, as the fundamental unit of our society. Strong families create strong societies. Strong societies nurture and mould stable countries. It is only when we have a happy and peaceful society that our children grow up in an environment where they emulate good moral values of love, hard work, compassion and respect for the elders. Therefore, as we celebrate this Christmas, we should ensure that we share love and happiness with our young ones who are the future leaders of our society.”

Nandi-Ndaitwah also called for unity post recently held general elections, and expressed gratitude to Namibians for mandating the Swapo Party for another five years to govern.
