The Walvis Bay municipality introduced its new junior council for 2023/24 on Thursday.
The group represents various high schools at the town.
The new junior mayor is Fisabo Mapalo, deputised by Gabriel Rabanus.
The new chief executive officer is Ellen Shitilwapo, deputised by Linric Ritzborn.
Francisco Nghinamifo is the new spokesperson, while Nishaan Titus is the human resources officer, deputised by Letu Hangula.
Veronika Haingura is the new treasurer, deputised by Elise Kambidi.
The new secretary is Lusia Dumeni, while Valentino Joseph is the new deputy secretary.
Victoria Peelenga and Stefan Goosen are senior members.
Mapalo promised that the council would bring needed changes to the community.
“We will do that by creating projects that will benefit the youth and our community at large. We will focus on the needed issues, including poor mental health in the community, which leads to substance abuse and reduces the concentration span of pupils, resulting in failing their grades.
“We will also focus on the safety of people in our respective communities, with the help of the senior council. We will assist with the refurbishing of recreational centres for the youth, and help the vulnerable in our community and schools by providing the necessary sanitary needs,” she said.
The council also plans to educate the youth on future careers.
