SLIGHTLY warmer weather is on the horizon for the interior parts of the country tomorrow, but the persistent dust storms, which have been tormenting multiple areas spanning from the North to the South, are likely to continue.
This is supported by the predictions of Namibia Meteorological Services, which indicate that the interior areas may experience cold temperatures tomorrow morning, but the rest of the day will likely be sunny and warm.
One of the lowest temperatures is expected in Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region. According to Namibia Meteorological Services, Grootfontein, which saw temperatures as low as -6°C this week, is expected to record a minimum temperature of 1°C tomorrow, with a maximum temperature of 22°C.
Several other places can also expect slightly warmer conditions tomorrow. For example, Gobabis in the Omaheke Region, which recorded a temperature as low as -4°C on Tuesday, is expected to have a minimum temperature of 4°C tomorrow and a maximum temperature of 19°C.
The same trend can be observed in the South, where Hardap Region’s Mariental and //Kharas Region’s Keetmanshoop are expected to record minimum temperatures ranging between 5°C and 6°C and maximum temperatures ranging between 19°C and 23°C tomorrow. Mariental and Keetmanshoop saw temperatures of -4°C and 0°C respectively earlier this week.
However, while the cold is expected to subside, the same cannot be said for the extremely windy conditions and dust storms, which affected many places from Opuwo, in the Kunene Region, all the way to Oranjemund, in the //Kharas Region.
Namibia Meteorological Services explained that a fresh to strong north-easterly winds will likely result in dust storms persisting over the interior parts of the country. The coast, which can also expect warm conditions tomorrow, will likely also experience occasional sandstorms tomorrow as east wind conditions persist.
These dust storms have wreaked havoc in the country this week, causing property damage in certain areas and significantly reducing road visibility, ultimately leading to a tragic accident near Arandis. The public is therefore advised to exercise caution when using the road during a dust storm.
